Laura Lungu, Smith
Academy:
A 3rd grade French immersion teacher,
Laura Lungu will use the funds to attend the University Sophia Antipolis
in
Nice,
France
to gain graduate credit hours towards her Masters Degree in French
education.
She has chosen this program to improve her
language skills, to learn new teaching practices and to help her
students gain cross-cultural knowledge and understanding.
Laura also plans on establishing a
partnership between the Smith
Academy
and the University Sophia Antipolis.
Kimberly
Cochran, West
Mecklenburg
High School:
A high school Spanish
teacher, Kimberly Cochran, will use the funds towards graduate studies
in education at the University of Deusto-Bilbao in
Bilbao, Spain.
Through this experience she will be able to bring real-life examples
into the classroom.
She hopes to engage students to learn a
foreign language by creating culturally-rich lessons.

Linda Horvath,
Providence High School:
A high school German teacher,
Linda Horvath, will use the funds towards a two-week exchange program
with Parsberg Gymnasium and
Providence
High School.
During the exchange she will spend time
visiting different schools, participating in classroom activities and
giving cultural presentations to the Parsberg students.
She believes this experience would make her
a more informed teacher who can bring thoughtful insight about the
latest social, economic, political and educational issues impacting the
world today.
