The fact is international issues are affecting our lives
every day; more so now than even before!
The worst
drought in 60 years sent approximately 10
million people into danger of starvation in
the Horn of Africa; driving many to walk for
days to reach refugee camps in Kenya.
The Arab Spring
movement in the Middle East brought calls of
democracy, political change and the
eradication of corruption in that part of
the world.
We watch Greece deal
with its economic crisis while its impact is
far-reaching into the rest of Europe as the
EU struggles to find a balance between
managing its own budget and assisting a
member country.
This year has brought
a host of natural disasters including the
recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan
resulting in an increased interest on
humanitarian aid and international
development.
Emerging markets
Brazil and China are making large in-roads
in the global economy while developed
nationals around the world struggle with
their debt and economic problems.
Every hour the world gets smaller
and foreign policy issues move closer to the core of our
everyday lives.
The World Affairs Council of Charlotte serves as regional
center for education and discussion of
world affairs; seeking to provide leadership
for global thinking, believing that a broad perspective
is necessary for effective competition in the global
economy and for responsible citizenship in the
increasingly interdependent political world.
Connecting the big
dots in what is becoming a very small world....
Just
as the
United States reinvents itself in the global arena; the Council
has to redefine it's goals and missions for the upcoming
2011-2012 year. Non-profit giving has reduced significantly due
to the recent economic stresses here at home (and abroad) but
the Council is remains committed to international education and
promoting greater public discourse on world affairs in the
greater Charlotte area.
As we grow in size and operation, your financial contribution
(and in-kind gifts) is the most important source of the
Council's general operating funds. The World Affairs Council of
Charlotte is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions
are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law

they do, please complete the necessary forms and forward the
required documentation to our office for final processing.
