The
World Affairs Council of Charlotte (WACC) Announces
the15th Annual Council Scholar Awards:
Outstanding Teachers in Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus,
Gaston, Lincoln, and Iredell County Committed to
International Education Encouraged to Apply.
Charlotte, N.C. –
The World Affairs Council of Charlotte announces its
annual Council Scholar Awards designed to reward
outstanding teachers (K-12) in Mecklenburg County and
surrounding areas who have demonstrated commitment and
interest in international education. Funded by The
Wachovia Foundation, CPI Security Systems, and the
Federal Republic of Germany; the Council Scholar Program
celebrates 15-years of supporting international
education in the Charlotte area.
Successful teachers will
receive
a grant up to $2500 for an approved program abroad or
attendance at an international conference. One grant is
specifically awarded to a teacher intending to go to
Germany or Austria. In addition, the WACC awards grant
recipients with lifetime Council membership, recognition
at the World Citizen Award Dinner and invitations to
special Council programs and receptions.
Eligible candidates must be full-time teachers or staff
member in Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Gaston, Lincoln,
and Iredell County schools (public or independent) with
significant student contact in grades K-12. He or she
needs to have a clear idea of their international
education plan and the impact it will have in their
classroom, school, and community. Preference will be
given to teachers who will be the most significantly
enhanced by their proposed travel abroad. Applicants
from schools without large international programs will
have special consideration as well.
