What are the added benefits of traveling with the Council?
The World Affairs
Council of Charlotte offers you a chance to travel with
Ambassador Ed Brynn and other highly-knowledgeable guides that can tie the history and
current events of a particular place together and make it
meaningful and relevant to you. We are also able to gather
key local experts to bring you the best of what
Dublin
has to offer beyond the surface of everyday attractions.
The Council
is committed to creating customized tours where global learning and
understanding are the primary goals, followed by linking you
with other travelers who are interested in being more than
just tourists. If you want to be a part of an unforgettable
experience, we invite you to travel with us.
Did you know...?
Besides the hospitable people, the country’s natural beauty,
and the chance to see some of
Ireland’s most
important places in an ideal environment, every North
Carolinian should know about the historical ties we hold
with Ireland. We have several links going back to the
inception of the state. You can read more
here.
Looking beyond local connections,
Ireland’s
reputation as the “Silicon Valley of Europe” and its recent
accomplishment of having the highest GDP growth in the world
over the past decade may pique your interest to find out
what’s been happening on their side of the pond.

What should I bring to wear?
The weather in
Ireland is variable, just like anywhere else you may visit. Please check
here for timely updates. Dublin's average temperatures
in September and October are between 57 and 62 degrees,
according to weather.com.
Average precipitation ranges between 2.6" and 2.8" a month. Please be
prepared by bringing rain gear and a light sweater or jacket
for the cooler evenings. Although the tour is mainly casual,
it would be a good idea to bring a coat and tie for men
should dressier clothes be required for a restaurant you'd
like to try.

What
about transportation in Dublin?
Get out your comfortable shoes!
Dublin is a great
walking city and must be seen on foot. While we will have
our own bus to visit some attractions, you can also take
advantage of Dublin’s new light rail system call the
DART.
Can you help us
plan our free time?
We
encourage you to take advantage of our research on Dublin to
see how you'd like to spend your free time. We want you to
have the best experience possible so please visit our
resource page to start your planning and get the maximum benefit
from your trip.
What is your cancellation policy?
All deposits are non-refundable once processed.
Cancellations received between the date of your deposit and
65 days before departure date will result in the loss of the
initial tour deposit. Cancellations received between
65 -31
days before departure date will incur 50% penalty and
cancellations received between March 23, 2008 and the
departure date will incur 100% penalty.
What if I am traveling alone?
You don't need to
bring anyone with you to enjoy the tour. Rates are based on
double occupancy, so you may be paired with other solo
travelers for the hotel stay or you may choose to pay a
single supplement fee of $425 and enjoy your own room.
Please let us know your preference when you sign up.
Do you offer travel insurance?
Trip
cancellation/Medical and Emergency Evacuation Insurance is
available and IS RECOMMENDED. By special arrangement, with
Travelex Insurance, a non-age specific comprehensive group
policy is
available for this group. Retail travel insurance packages
are also available and may be purchased through your
preferred carrier. Additional information will be supplied
upon registration.
Will
our group meet before we leave?
Our first event in connection with the trip will be held at
a private home on May 30th. We will offer a free
wine and cheese party to discuss
Ireland and the
details of the tour with the guide who will lead
it—Ambassador Ed Brynn. Please sign up by calling the
Council.
Who should I contact for more information?
For general information on the tour, please contact
Jennifer Armentrout at the Council. You will also need
