On November 20, 2009, President Obama nominated David Adelman of Georgia to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Singapore and on March 19, 2010 the United States Senate confirmed his nomination.
Prior to his confirmation, Ambassador Adelman served as a State Senator in the Georgia General Assembly and as an Assistant Attorney General in Georgia. For the past twenty years he worked with the national law firm Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP. He has taught courses in political science as an instructor in the Honors Program at the University of Georgia. For many years Ambassador Adelman represented indigent veterans on a pro bono basis before the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, as well as served as a legal adviser to the state of Georgia’s largest domestic violence organizations.
Ambassador Adelman received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Georgia, his Master’s in Public Administration from Georgia State University, and his Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law. Born in New York City, he and his wife Caroline have three children.
